It turns out that conservatives aren’t the only ones upset about the absence of diversity revealed in the choice of moderators for the presidential and vice-presidential debates. Tavis Smiley, a black man who has made a career out of being concerned about racial quotas, notices that the best the MSM could do was come up with a panel of pallor:

As I think about the election in November, I can’t help but think about Matt Ridley and his outstanding book “The Rational Optimist – How Prosperity Evolves”. In it he chronicles the evolution of human society and demonstrates a perfect understanding of why nations fail:

“Empires, indeed governments generally, tend to be good things at first and bad things the longer they last. First they improve society’s ability to flourish by providing central services and removing impediments to trade and specialization”.

Nearly a week ago, I called for Cardinal Dolan to cancel the Al Smith dinner to which he had invited President Obama. My concern was that he was succumbing to the tyranny of nice: I see no rationale other than being nice that would be driving Cardinal Dolan to have Barack Hussein Obama seated next to him, chuckling, cajoling, jiving and joking their way through dinner together all while Obama is at the same time doing his level best to quash a Catholic way of being by way of the HHS Mandate...

71 years ago today, a man was killed by the Nazis at Auschwitz. He was no ordinary man. Brad Birzer gives us details that ought to be read by all: When innocent prisoner #5659 was about to be placed in Cell Block #13, the worst of all tortures prior to the invention of the gas chambers, prisoner #16670 volunteered to take his place. Stunned at the unprecedented request, the commandant acquiesced. The man who volunteered was a Roman Catholic priest, Maximilian Kolbe...

Governor Mitt Romney’s choice of Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate is one of those decisions that seem obvious — if not inevitable — in retrospect, even though it was by no means obvious to most of us beforehand.

According to The New York Times, President Obama is a "voracious consumer of news." But he's not at all happy with a media that has been apparently engaged this whole time in a one-sided love affair with The One. He has harsh words for the media establishment.

For The New York Times, reporter Jackie Calmes must have found Chris Matthews' leg tingle as she penned a story dreamily reminiscing about Obama's "jaw-dropping crowds" he used to garner at campaign stops back in 2007-08. Calmes also wondered why Obama isn't getting those great crowds anymore?

We all know that Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. is a huge anti-gun activist. It is also public knowledge in Illinois that he is a holder of an Illinois Firearms Owner ID (a FOID card). This state-issued ID that allows Illinois residents to legally purchase firearms and ammunition is supposed to be revoked for people that have been admitted to a mental health facility. So, will the state revoke Jackson's FOID card?

If nationalists win an election in Serbia, it follows that there will be an article in The Washington Times by the paper’s resident Croatian-supremacist Jeffrey T. Kuhner. And so there was, as usual angling for a new war against Serbia – by making the argument that Serbia wants it. (“Did Serbia Vote for War: New ultranationalist president promotes instability” – May 24) “Mr. Nikolic’s victory means the Balkans may be plunged into ethnic violence again,” Kuhner writes. Thanks for that NGO/State Department stock sentence. As if it’s not violence while only Serbs (and Roma) are being picked off (in Serbia’s Kosovo) or

Romney surrogate John Sununu was interviewed by Obama surrogate Soledad O'Brien this morning and what erupted was quite the battle. The question is whether the Romney and Ryan plans were the same when it comes to Medicare. The answer of course is no. Ryan's plan assumes the cuts that Obama has already made to the program, they Romney plan restores them. But truth is too simple for Ms. O' Brien who rivals Debbie Wasserman Shultz in her inability to stray from the democratic talking points.

Liberals love to go on and on about how Christian conservatives supposedly hate gays because we oppose gay marriage and many of us oppose gays in the military. Yet, these same liberals malevolently mock gay conservatives and accuse people of being gay to insult them, which tells you a lot about what they really think. Outing is also another despicable, hate-filled way to strike out at gay conservatives that liberals disagree with. Here’s horrible human being Azariah Southworth at Alternet bragging about how he helped ruin a gay man’s life because he didn’t agree with him politically.

In 2008, after Sarah Palin became our vice-presidential nominee, she instantly became the most prominent woman in the Republican Party. Since then, she has relentlessly supported the Tea Party and in 2010, she was one of the most valuable players in the best year the GOP has had in half a century. During that election cycle, she endorsed candidates like Nikki Haley, Renee Ellmers, Kristi Noem, Susana Martinez, Chris Christie, Sean Duffy, Bob McDonnell, Tim Scott, Rand Paul, and Allen West. Additionally, there are few people who would dispute that Sarah Palin is a dynamic speaker with a large fan

“Social Justice”: a phrase that’s tossed around a lot, but usually in ways that do serious INjustice to its original context. Paul Ryan, a Catholic economics expert from Wisconsin, is suddenly in the news; I thought it might be time to go back and take a look at some classic Catholic social justice theory…what it REALLY says. Let’s take a look.

Leo XIII came out with the seminal encyclical, “Rerum Novarum” in the year 1891. It was followed up by other letters that built upon that good foundation. The basic idea from this tradition that I want to underline is summed
