As a Mom I feel I have more skin in the game than ever this election cycle. I’ve been paying close attention to the Presidential race to figure out what’s best for my family. Polls released last week by CBS News and NYT showed Obama with a 53-41 percent advantage among women. This week Obama and Romney campaigns went into high gear releasing ads targeted at women.

Okay, in fairness, it’s not really Obama’s champagne tower, worth over $100,000. It’s Jay-Z and Beyonce’s golden champagne tower and it was a centerpiece of last night’s Obama campaign fundraiser (his 141st this year) at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club, where for a mere $40,000 per person, folks got to hang with the president and hear his pearls.

Being offline during the Rosh Hashana holiday there was plenty of reading to catch up on beginning with sundown last night. I ran across one item that was so outrageous it was incredible that no one had picked up on it. Sadly Barbra Streisand, one of the most incredible singing voices of our time had suffered some sort of massive brain injury or horrible brain disease. First thought is why in the world is Romney being brought up on the floor of the Senate? Why is Harry Reid debating Romney in the Senate when:
The 112th Congress is set to enter the Congressional record books as the least productive body in a generation, passing a mere 173 public laws as of last month. . . . Appropriations bills, once the central function of the legislative branch, have been ditched in favor of short-term spending measures that do little more than keep the lights on.

I’m a libertarian because I see the false choice offered by political left and right: Democrats talk about personal liberty; Republicans talk about economic freedom. The media is having a field day pushing the secret Romney video as some shocking revelation. Meanwhile negative stories on the president, or easy, simple gaffes, don’t get the same drumbeat and pick up the same level of leg power in the mainstream media. Negative stories on Romney get cycled and recycled as frontpage news; negative stories on Obama? What negative stories!

The National Football League seems to have done it right. For last Sunday's Saints vs Panthers game, the NFL pulled a referee from the game because they were alerted to his Facebook page that showed he was a big fan of the Saints. One wonders if the Old Media establishment should do the same thing with its political coverage?

In the 2010 index of Economic freedom the United States came in a dismal #18 after being #2 in 2000. Part of the cause could be the increase in the size of government or the increase in government regulation that is keeping businesses from achieving their full potential. Whatever it is some speculate that in the next release of this index that on the current path the U.S. could fall to as low as #40!

President Obama brags about the four million private sector jobs he supposedly created during the past 27 months of his administration. His funky math takes us from March 2010 through this past May. Notice something missing, like for example the first 14 months of his presidency? At an October 19, 1998 conference at Loyola University, Barack Obama spoke against "propaganda" that said government doesn't work and the need to "pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution."

What happened in Egypt was very simple. The Egyptian government knew that a demonstration would be held by radical anti-American forces, including the local branch of al-Qaida, outside the U.S. embassy. Through the ideology, public statements, past experience, and probably intelligence penetration, it knew they intended to storm the embassy.
The highest levels of the Egyptian government decided not to protect the embassy, in breach of their international obligations. And they knew—or rightly expected—that the Obama Administration would not punish them for behaving that way.

We are told that President Obama watched a lot of football this weekend. I guess it was more fun than attempting to deal with our embassies burning in the Middle East and our soldiers being killed in Afghanistan.
