Because this is Marin and I am not a hermit, I frequently find myself in conversation with Democrats. It was to be expected, therefore, that conversation over the Christmas holiday would end up revolving around gun control. These conversations were disheartening on all sides. My friends concluded that I support wild-eyed mass murderers, since I believe in the Second Amendment, and I concluded that their devotion to feelings over facts will result in many unnecessary deaths over the years.

It is Claire´s and my conviction that Christmas is just too big and beautiful to be contained in one day. So though we love December and its many and various anticipations of Christmas, our real celebration starts (not ends) on December 25th. Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has affirmed that the department is looking into allegations that NBC´s David Gregory violated D.C.´s gun banning laws during a recent taping of Meet the Press.

On NBC´s Meet The Press over the weekend, David Gregory was quite confrontational with the Vice President of the National Rifle Association over the organization´s idea of putting armed security guards in every school in America. But even as Gregory mocked the NRA for the idea, he seems to see nothing wrong with sending his own kids to a school that has armed security guards each school day.
