One way to mark the legacy of a presidency is to tally statistics and at least one stat is not very flattering for this president: Americans on food stamps have grown by 11,133 every day during his first term.

If you´ve watched SyFy, the science fiction cable channel, you may be aware of a show called Lost Girl. The show is well known as being quite "inclusive" commonly portraying gay, lesbian and cross dressing characters. Despite this fealty to the cause, a national gay group is still attacking the show over a recent episode.

We all remember Chris Matthews getting that thrill up his leg for President Obama, right? Now Matthews´ NBC colleague, Brian Williams, is apparently ready to join that thrill seeker´s club by declaring that Michelle Obama is the most "fascinating" first lady since Jackie Kennedy.

One of America´s most famous patriots is slated for a little attention on the AMC cable networkperhaps regrettably so. There may soon be a bit of hate going around for him with a new AMC sitcom in development called "We Hate Paul Revere." So much for sitcoms where "everyone loves" someone, eh? And so much for patriotism.

I am frustrated and puzzled and at times angry about it. The unfairness of it all is something I sometimes think though rarely allow to pass my lips to others.
What frustrates, puzzles and angers me at times?
My faith. Particularly my passion for it. I wonder why faith, my Catholic faith and my attempted embrace of Catholicism´s doctrines, dogmas and teachings, is something that consumes much of my thinking while not doing so, seemingly, for others. It is at times maddening.
Into that frustration steps Fr. Denis Lemieux...

Yes, Barack Obama did beat Mitt Romney in 2012. But, he was reelected as President– not king. Unfortunately, no one seems to have told the Republicans in Congress that because they’re looking for any excuse they can find to roll over for him like whipped dogs. Meanwhile, many conservatives are moping around because they seem to have concluded that if Barack Obama could win in 2012, then it’s all over.

What is it that makes one company more successful than another company, when both offer somewhat similar products? And what if one of the company´s actually is selling a but the product that happens to be toxic to those who come into contact with it?
How could it possibly be that the product which is toxic actually outsells the one that´s non-toxic and that the company offering toxicity thrives while the other is teetering on the edge of insolvency...

Last week as Vice President Joe Biden talked publicly about his efforts to assist President Obama with his various gun-banning schemes, he made a startling new claim. He said that while golfing in Pennsylvania in 2006 he personally heard the gunfire from a mass shooting being committed at a nearby school. But did he really? Facts seem to run contrary to Biden’s late claim.

During the pledge of allegiance during the inauguration yesterday, the words "under God" were removed by the President.

Someone asked me, recently, what I thought the status is of the pro-life movement, and I said, “sort of stagnant.” Different polling shows different data (and as Sr. Mary Ann Walsh noted at the USCCB Media Blog, “it’s all in how you ask the questions”) but whether anything is really changing is anyone’s guess and tactics — on both sides — are awfully stale and predictable.

For the past four years, conservatives have been fighting a relentlessly rearguard, defensive action. For those same four years, conservatives have lost every rearguard, defensive action that they’ve fought. Or if they haven’t actually lost, the best that they’ve managed is a stalemate that stalls Progressivism, but doesn’t advance conservative values. Even the stunning 2010 “shellacking” proved ineffective, as shellackings really only work if you take over Congress entirely, rather than just getting half of it.

By my count, there have been at least seven budget/debt battles over the past two years in which Republicans have either deferred, punted, or caved. While they offer excuses for shirking from the battle at hand, they always emphatically promise to fight the next one.
