I did something very nice yesterday: I attended a luncheon at which Victor Davis Hanson spoke. I’ve read his work for years, and knew that I would be in the presence of an intellectual giant. Hanson is an expert in both Classic and military history (not to mention Classic military history). He is also an acute observer of the American political and social scene.

There are no ´metamucil´ product placements in the fifth installment of this perennial Bruce Willis franchise. Jack Poessiger says it does serve up non-stop action, but little else, despite the father-son headbutt sub-plot.

Memo to post-modern culture: Maybe the Bible´s teachings about modesty, self-control, sexual activity being a pleasurable and fruitful experience for married heterosexual couples, marital fidelity, and so on weren´t so stuffy, irrelevant and out-dated after all.

Let´s see…just what was the biggest whopper of the State of the Union speech? "The 12 hottest years on record have all come in the last 15?" Or was it "Already, the Affordable Care Act is helping to slow the growth of health care costs." Or perhaps the "Not a dime" line? Here´s three reporters whose views of the President´s prevarications are a bit clearer than those playing on O´s team.

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley seems to have used his power as Governor to utilize the personal emails of hundreds of Marylanders holding hunting licenses in order to push his anti-gun agenda. Patrick Shomo, the president of the pro-gun rights organization Maryland Shall Issue, told The Washington Times that Governor O’Malley is "tapping the state’s Department of Natural Resources database for hunting licenses" in order to gain access to the addresses.

Ahead of the President´s State of the Union speech, taxpayer funded National Public Radio (NPR) tried to help the White House push the false notion that the sequestration budget cut policy was conceived by the Republicans. In truth, it was initiated by Obama and pushed by the Democrat Party.

The Keystone XL Pipeline has been viewed as a means to alleviate several problems: reducing America’s dependency upon Middle East Oil, providing a source for America’s refining of oil, lowering the price of fuel at the pump, providing employment for many Americans in the construction of the pipeline and at the port, and an assurance of a reliable source of crude.

Why do once-successful societies ossify and decline? Hundreds of reasons have been adduced for the fall of Rome and the end of the Old Regime in 18th-century France. Reasons run from inflation and excessive spending to resource depletion and enemy invasion, as historians attempt to understand the sudden collapse of the Mycenaeans, the Aztecs and, apparently, the modern Greeks. In literature from Catullus to Edward Gibbon, wealth and leisure — and who gets the most of both — more often than poverty and exhaustion implode civilization

In a Washington D.C. news conference archeologists working for the Smithsonian Institution have announced an incredible discoverya hidden version of the U.S Constitution dated 1790. It was passed by the original 13 States and intended to supplant the version ratified in 1788 (the one we use now). The Chief Archeologist on the project named the document "the Dead Baseball Team Scrolls," because they were found in a previously unknown cave underneath Wrigley Field in Chicago. According to the scientists, a 16-year-old boy named Zach Emanuel (who happens to be the son of the Chicago Mayor) was walking his dog near the

As a matter of professional ethics, public school teachers should not use their classroom to advance a specific viewpoint. It’s not just that teachers receive their pay from taxpayers who don’t wish to see their money used to indoctrinate captive children in views antithetical to some or all of the taxpayers. It’s more subtle than that. Teachers are also authority figures whose opinions color a child’s mental development and whose power over those all-important grades may coerce a student into believing that academic success requires that he must accept the teacher’s views. To force feed a specific political ideology on

Unfortunately, the Nuge was on his best behavior, and only provided some rare meat That’s because Nugent understands that what Obama and Democrats are pushing is to control gun ownership for law abiding citizens, making them more reliant on The Government for protection from criminals. And because Democrats simply do not like guns and do not want (Other People) to be allowed to own guns.
